Brayden {2.5+ years}

I haven't done an update on Brayden since he turned 2 over 9 months ago. So, I figured it was about time I sit down and talk about what this crazy energetic and independent little man is up to these days. I've been really awful lately at updating this here blog. I have so much to talk about and several drafts started just waiting to be finished and published. Brayden is my number one priority and always will be so blogging about life has to happen when time and energy allow.

Brayden's Stats at 2.5 years old (I was a little behind in his 2 year well baby check)
Height-34inches
Weight-26.6lbs

Brayden is growing up at record speed and as usual I think I just might be about 10 steps behind him most of the time. Seriously, how is he just 4 months away from turning 3? It just can't be possible. He is such a sweet, energetic, independent crazy handsome little boy. He loves to sing while he plays, enjoys making us laugh and is ALL.BOY! Being loud, making extreme messes, being rough and tough is what Brayden is all about. His vocabulary is out of this world and his speech is so clear. He loves to be Mama's little helper to which really brings out his independent side. He wants to do EVERYTHING by himself and he lets me know it if I have done something he wanted to do.

Favorite TV Shows/Movies
We are still huge fans of Disney Jr over here but he has added in a few new ones into the mix as well.
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse & The Great Clubhouse Hunt (All time favorite show)
Thomas & Friends
Super WHY
Daniel Tiger
Leap Frog

Favorite Activities
{Puzzles}
Brayden LOVES doing puzzles and is so quick in putting them together. We started out with the age appropriate puzzles but he quickly became bored with them and was putting them together in a blink of an eye.

We then came across some really nice 24 piece puzzles with his favorite Disney characters on them to give him a little more of a challenge. They really are not difficult for him to do at all and has them together within a couple minutes tops.

He's a little smarty pants!

While browsing the puzzle section at Target I came across this puzzle of a Barnyard by Crocodile Creek. Not only did I fall in love with the beautiful picture of this puzzle but I thought it would be perfect for Brayden and a little challenging for him as well.

No joke...this kid puts this 48 piece puzzle together all.by.himself.

 {Coloring & Other Arts & Crafts}
Coloring is still a huge activity we really enjoy doing on an almost daily basis. We've recently tried water paints and he also loves cutting paper into as many pieces as possible (supervised with safety scissors).

{Alphabet, Numbers, Shapes and Colors}
Shorty after Brayden's 2nd Birthday he had his colors and shapes pretty much mastered. By the time he was 2.5 he could count to 10 and could sing his alphabet from start to finish.  Not only could he say both his numbers and letters he also recognizes them in any order. With just under 4 months until his 3rd birthday he can now count to 20 and wants to trace over letters. I have one smart cookie, I am blown away at the knowledge he has at just 2.5 years old. I am one proud mama.

We spent most of our summer evenings sitting in the driveway using chalk. It was probably one of our favorite outside activities to do. Brayden always gives me strict demanding instructions on what to draw or write. Shapes, numbers and the alphabet are always the first things he asks for.

We officially turned his crib into a toddler bed about a month or so ago. He is super excited about his bed and talks about it often through out the day but we have just one problem...he won't actually sleep in it. Its definitely a work in progress.

Potty training has been in progress for probably a year now. (Potty training post to come soon) We introduced him to the potty just before he turned 2 and has shown an interest in it ever since. It has not always gone smoothly but he officially goes most of the day(and outings) with just undies on now and goes pee on the potty all by himself (standing up). He loves being able to go by himself and is so proud. He still wears a diaper to nap and at bedtime but we are working on it. Going #2 on the potty is a completely different story. He pretty much refuses to go so at this point I do what I can to encourage him to use the potty but I don't force him because then he just freaks out and doesn't want anything to do with the potty. I didn't force going pee on the potty so I don't intend to do that with #2 either. When he is ready he will do it. It has worked for us this way so I am sticking with it. At the end of the day we are buying less diapers and having less accidents so I say that's progress and I am very happy with that.

Brayden {24 Months}

I am not really sure how this happened so fast but my baby is officially two years old. I have a 2 Year old. I am still trying to wrap my mind around yet another milestone. Brayden is such a sweet, loving, silly, energetic & smart little boy. I am absolutely amazed every day at how incredibly smart he is.

Taken the morning of his birthday

Favorite Words or phrases
Brayden's speech continues to grow everyday and the fact that he is starting to form more sentences other than just short phrases just blows my mind. He repeats just about anything we say or anything he hears us say.

"I Don't think so"
"What Happened"
"Nice to see you Mama"
"Where are you"
"I found you"
"What doing"

Me: Brayden, I think it's time to get ready for a nap
Brayden: I don't think so Mama

Brayden: Mama, I hungry
Me: What would you like to eat
Brayden: Chocolate Milk

Favorite Activities
Brayden is always super excited to do just about anything. His favorite things to do right now include:
coloring or being given a pencil and a piece of paper
building with blocks
doing puzzles
playing with his train on his new train table
(I of course wanted the biggest and best table we could find but unfortunately I am not made of money so we had to go with a smaller cheaper one for now. He loves it and plays with it several times a day.)

Brayden is a big "helper"  most of the time and loves to clean with mommy. I often give him a towel and he will go around washing things down. He also must get his little vacuum out every time I get the big one out. It's just the cutest thing.

Other Milestones
Brayden knows his basic shapes and is also well on his way to being able to count to at least 5 or six but with a little help still. He is very interested in his colors but often still gets them mixed up. It's a work in progress but I am sure my smart little man will have it down pat really soon.

Potty training has been in full force for a good month or two now and I have to say I am very proud of Brayden. He wears his "undies" most often if we are at home and while we still have a lot of accidents we have made some great progress. He stays dryer longer and is even starting to tell us when he needs to go. Consistency really makes a difference.

Brayden {21 Months}

It has been 3 months since I last did a monthly update on Brayden. I had decided at 18 months that I would go to every other month until he was 2. Well, with going on vacation last month and then being busy here I slacked on the 20 month post so we will just go with a 21 month update instead.

My baby boy turned 21 months old on Sunday. I am seriously amazed at how fast the time is flying. He is going to be 2 in just 3 short months, how did that happen? My baby is growing up so fast I can't hardly stand it. He will forever be my baby in my eyes but he is turning into such a BIG boy. He is such a "boy", wanting to make huge messes, being loud and rough and of course getting dirty.
 Brayden has expanded his vocabulary more than I ever thought possible at just 21 months. He says so much and repeats pretty much anything we ask him to say. We can usually understand what he is saying almost always.
 Believe it or not we are actually thinking of potty training in the very near future. I think he just may be ready for that step. More on that topic to come a bit later.
I knew that the time would soon come when we would be dealing with tantrums and he is definitely testing his boundaries and our patience. If he does not like something we have said to him he will protest by throwing himself down on the floor flat on his belly. I always find myself trying not to laugh because its so cute.

Brayden has an ever growing love for Thomas the Train and has acquired several wooden trains thanks to Grandma and Grampy. I see a train table in our near future. I am pretty sure his 2nd Birthday will have a Thomas theme for sure.

Brayden {18 Months}

Yes I am super late with this post as he will be 19 months old on Tuesday but that's life and I am working on getting these posts together sooner.

18 months old, seriously 18 months already!!!!! I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast. I know that I say it every month and sound like a broken record but its just crazy how fast the time goes. Time flies when your having fun.
It is something new for this kid every day. He is still as ambitious and curious as he always has been. He has become quite the climber these days and is even mastered pushing stools up to places to get higher. Smart kid. He has no problem getting on the couch, coffee table or even onto his rocker. I recently went into his room to check on him only to find him standing on the arm of the rocker with his foot up on his crib rail saying "bed" "bed". Mama nearly had a heart attack at that sight. Needless to say, the rocker will be moving away from the crib soon.
I am impressed at the things he understands when we talk to him. If we ask him to go get something he usually knows what we are asking and often answers with a "yes" or "no" if we ask him if he wants something. The communication barrier is still there but the more words he learns the easier it gets to figure out what he needs.
It seems as though this kid is going to end up with a mouth full of teeth all at once. Up until around 17.5 months old he had just his top and bottom four teeth. He know has two top molars and almost two bottom molars with several other teeth showing visible signs through the gums.

Brayden {16 & 17 Months}

This post is seriously overdue and I feel that I have so much to catch up on since he will be 18 months old before I know it. (Like in a week.

How is it that my little man is almost a year and a half old already. Time is going by so quickly and I just can't get enough of his cute little self. I think that this stage or age is my favorite. There is not much if anything that really scares him or causes hesitation, he loves to climb and wants to do everything by himself. He is a pretty independent and ambitious little boy. He has mastered the 4 steps leading down our deck to the driveway and insists on doing it himself. Its scares mommy to death so I stay really close of course but he holds on, goes slow and makes it to the bottom.
Brayden has LOTS of new teeth coming in and he has been more cranky than anything most days. I think he is getting at least 4-6 teeth right now, maybe more.

Brayden {15 Months}

I actually wrote this a couple weeks ago but had not published yet due to not having a 15 month picture. They are pretty much impossible to get anymore. He is not up for sitting for a photo shoot anymore. So, I will add a pic when I get one.

We had Braydens 15 month appointment this week and it was probably the most stressful appointment I have taken him to yet. Once the nurse called us back and we got into the room and I undressed him the screaming began and did not stop. All she wanted to do was weigh him and he absolutely refused to sit down on the scale and everything after that was a fight which included lots of screaming. It did not get any better when the doctor came in. She was barely able to do the exam and I could not hear myself talk to her or keep a hold of my child for that matter. They are super nice people at the office so I have no idea what scared him so bad. Perhaps he remembers what happens every time we go there. I am hoping that at his next appointment he behaves himself. The good news is he is healthy and doing very well. He is in the 16th percentile for weight at 20.8 lbs and 47th percentile for height.

Within the last month we have had a little hiccup with his sleeping through the night but I think we are finally getting somewhat back on track. He has finally started to eat eat some fruit and veggies without a fight or just throwing it on the floor. He is now loving bananas with his breakfast and often eats them before anything else on his plate. Corn and peas are his veggies of choice right now and I am OK with that. We love that he is enjoying sitting at the table with us to eat and he is still very interested in using his spoon and fork but still often uses his hands mostly because its quicker.

Loves playing outside
Taking pillows off the couch, gives him more room to crawl around on couch.

Dislikes...
Coming inside after playing out side

Brayden {14 Months}

14 month pic to come as soon as I upload it to my desktop...

Another month and a half has quickly passed and my little man is another month older. 14 months to be exact. He is turning into such a smart, loving little but big boy very quickly. It seems that he has grown up into this big boy all of a sudden. He wants to eat with a spoon and fork all by himself and claps and says "yay" whenever he accomplishes something. Which of course Mommy and Daddy find super cute. His excitement over the smallest of things just make as us love him even more.

Loves...
Playing with pillows on floor
Wrestling with Daddy
The Swiffer and Vacuum cleaner...he loves for me to vacuum so needless to say my floors should be pretty clean since we clean them almost every day.

Dislikes...
Vegetables
Being told "No"
Being contained in a stroller or shopping cart. He would much rather be free to run around. Sometimes he is good and sits through a store other times its not as easy.

What he is saying...
Mama
Dada
Casey (our dog)
rock (whenever we are rocking him he sways back and forth and says "rock, rock"
nice (said alot while he is petting the dog becasue we always have to tell him to pet her "nice")

New words at 14 months...
milk (only a couple times but he definitely knows what it is)
Mess
Yuck
Hello
Bye
Stuck

We have been working on getting different parts of the body as well and I am surprised at how much he knows. He knows eyes, nose, mouth, ears (sometimes), hair, toes, and hands. He is obsessed with his belly and belly button as well as anyone elses if you let him lift your shirt. It thinks its Really funny to poke our belly button. Some of these he knows on himself but most of them he will point out on Mommy or Daddy.

Brayden {13 months}

We have such an ambitious, busy little boy around here. He is always such as busy little guy. I feel very blessed because most days he plays a lot by himself. He is very satisfied playing independently.
We had a rough time a couple weeks ago when Brayden had his first really bad cold that ended with an ear infection. He was pretty miserable and mommy and daddy felt so bad for him. Having a sick little one is NO fun at all.
Brayden also has another tooth coming through on the bottom bringing the total up to 5 and I think we will be adding a few more soon.

Loves...
Pushing the laundry basket around the house.
Opening and closing doors is pretty fun.
Playing with pots and pans, forget about toys!
Playing with his cars and making car noises.
Watching Thomas The Engine, he gets so excited.
Reading books, over and over.

Hates...
Having his nose wiped.
Diaper changes, still. Not every time but its still a battle.

Brayden {11 & 12 Months}

Well, as usual I am  a little late posting this 11 month update so I am going to combine 11 & 12 month together.  Time just gets away from me. Being one year old should really have a post of its own but I did put together a post all about his first birthday here.

We officially have a walker in our house now. Brayden started walking the day after thanksgiving (Which would have made him about 10.5 months)  and has not stopped, in fact he practically runs at times. Its so cute to watch him walk all around the house, doing whatever he wants. Within the next week his two top teeth came through giving him a total of 4 teeth now. I just love seeing his little smile with all those teeth.

One year Stats...
19 lbs
29.5 in tall
Size 12 month clothes

Now that Brayden is ONE we have started him on whole milk and he is starting to eat a lot more food that we are eating instead of baby food. I can't tell if he loves the milk yet but I keep offering it to him with meals in hopes he will start drinking it more. He does really enjoy cheese and yogurt so I am not to worried if he does not get much milk right now.

Some of his favorite foods include...
Puffs
Cheese crunchies
Yogurt melts
Multi grain cheerios
Honey Kix
Pancakes
Scrambled eggs
Yogurt

Favorite Toys...
Hot wheels cars
John Deere Semi Trucks
Mega blocks
Thomas the Tank Engine riding toy

Loves...
Being able to walk ALL BY HIMSELF
Giving kisses
Waving
Eating big boy food
Being naked or in minimal clothing
Having books read to him
Chasing the dog, hiding from the dog and getting in dogs bed
Watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and Neverland Pirates & Thomas

Hates...
Being cooped up inside, he wants to play outside so bad but its just been to cold.
When things do not go the way he wants them to, seems to get frustrated quickly.
Does not like being told "no"

Brayden {10 Months}

(Ok, as usual I am slightly behind in posting, he will be 11 months next week. Better late than never, right?)
I really had no idea that the time could possibly go this fast. In just 2 short and very busy months my little baby boy will be 1 year old, sniff sniff. Ten months, wow! Its just so hard to believe. Brayden is getting closer and closer everyday to walking on his own. He stands alone while playing, and has even taken a step or two towards something he wants but quickly falls down. Its just a matter of time.

 We finally decided that it was time for a  big boy car seat and he really likes it. He sits up straighter and higher so I think he is much happier with that. The only downside to having this seat is when he falls asleep in it. We have yet to master the skill of moving him while asleep to the stroller or in the house. I am sure we will get better at it and find what works for us.

We have started to introduce more and more table food and sometimes it goes ok and sometimes he is just not interested.

Loves...
opening and closing drawers and cabinets and of course pulling whatever is in said drawers and cabinets out and throwing them on the floor.

playing peak-a-boo or hiding and you chase him.

wresteling with daddy, he loves to get daddy while hes on the floor.

scrambled eggs and pancakes, cheese, yogurt, gold fish snacks

Hates...
Textured baby food ( I think I mentioned it last month but he still does not like it at all)

Still hates getting dressed but is getting better about letting us change his diaper, sometimes!

Brayden {9 Months}

Well, Mr Brayden turned 9 months old on October 6th. 9 MONTHS, geez! Its all going so fast. We have not had to many new milestones this month. He is mostly just improving on the skills he picked up last month. Brayden is still not walking on his own yet but he gets closer and closer every day. He really cruises along the furniture and even took off walking all by himself behind his learning walker.  We officially have  a "first word"mama mama mama! He says it all the time and I of course just love it. Brayden has also finally picked up on waving. He gets so excited when it does it to.

As of October 12th, 2012
Weight- 16lbs 10oz
Height- 28in
Head- 17in

 Dr says he is doing great and is a very healthy little boy.
That always makes a mommy feel good.

Loves...
Loves to look at himself in the mirror. He loves to "kiss the baby". Its so cute.

He LOVES to sit almost sideways in shopping carts so he can see whats going on. You would think just being able to sit up would be enough but not for this kid.

Loves to play/chase our dog around but she is not always thrilled about that. She would much rather sleep.

Hates...
Not being able to do what he wants.

 He is getting better at laying still for diaper changes and getting clothes on but its still a struggle most of the time.

Foods with any sort of texture to it. We tried the stage 3 foods and he is not a fan of them at all. I will probably wait a bit and try them again.
What a difference 9 months makes!

Brayden {8 Months}

I seriously can't believe my baby is 8 months old already (well actually he is 8.5 months now). This year is just flying by. Last year at this time we had just found out that our little miracle was a sweet baby boy. We were busy planning our registry, making countless trips to baby stores, & designing/planning the nursery. I just loved preparing for his arrival. It is so hard to believe that in just 4 short & busy months he will be ONE. I have already been getting ideas for his first big birthday. Anyway...not to much has really changed from last month. He is just getting better at doing things and faster too. I know that he will be walking soon. He has started to walk along the couch, window, coffee table, etc much faster & he is pretty much standing up to anything that will hold him (walls, doors, toys, chairs). Brayden also got his first pairs of shoes recently. I never really saw the need to put shoes on him until now. He wants to walk so bad especially outside so we decided that instead of him scrapping up his cute little toes outside on the concrete that shoes might be a good idea. Plus, they look SUPER cute on him:)

Loves...
Playing with anything that is not actually a toy.

LOVES Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...although we have been turning it on for a while now he really likes it and turns his head towards the TV when he hears the music play.

Eating Puffs & using his big boy sippy cup. He is picking them up and getting them into his mouth perfectly and is getting better and better at using the sippy cup. He really enjoys his juice or water.

Standing at the window and looking outside.

Making noises banging with his hands or using a toy. He has also become very vocal and talks all the time.

Hates...
Getting his diaper changed & clothes on for that matter, I do not look forward to this time at all. It is almost impossible. That is why most days he may spend a good portion of the day in just a diaper. Its just not worth it at this point.

Being put in his infant car seat. We are thinking that it might be about time to switch him to a big boy car seat really soon. I think he may like that much better.

Brayden {6 & 7 Months}

Ok, so I am a little behind in my monthly updates on my little guy. Life with a little one does not allow things to happen the way that I would necessarily like them to happen. But thats ok, I am learning to just go with the flow. My house is never clean anymore and there are toys and such all over the house. I would not have it any other way:) These last 2 months have been so amazing watching this little man learn how to do so much. At 6 months we knew it would only be a matter of time before he started to crawl, and sure enough by 6.5 months old that is just what he did. In the same week he learned to crawl he also had his 2 bottom teeth coming thru. What a week!

I always wanted to have his pic taken every month in the same place but he just does not sit still for me to get pics anymore. Crazy kid:)

Here are some things Brayden is doing at 7 months old...

We officially have a full on crawler in the house. He is EVERYWHERE and getting into EVERYTHING. Brayden is such a determined independent little boy so I know he is loving being able to get around on his own and check things out. We just love to watch him make his way around and actually play with all his toys. He has also figured out how to pull himself up at the couch and a few other places as well but we still fall down quite a bit. We have really low windows in our house and they are the perfect height for him to stand right up to. They even have a ledge so I see lots playing at the windows in the future. We decided to introduce some 2nd food mixtures with meat in them and he really really likes them. We also started giving him some snack time Puffs which he LOVES and he is even doing pretty good at trying to pick them up on his own. The only bad thing about month 7 was that we experienced our first illness, it just broke my heart.

Brayden {5 Months}

OK, so I am a little behind in posting this but better late than never. Brayden keeps us so busy so there is not much time for blogging or anything that I would want to do for that matter. But, honestly I would not trade how my days go for anything. I recently just started back to work part time and am gone most evenings and weekend mornings but I feel very blessed to get the majority of the days with him and so happy that daddy gets some time with him while I am gone. Of course I hate every second I have to be away from him but it helps that he gets to be home with daddy.
 Brayden turned 5 months old back on the 6th and as I say every month, I just cant believe how fast he is growing. I feel that even in the last few weeks he has learned to do so much so fast. He has been officially rolling from back to tummy for several weeks now and he does it almost instantly every time we lay him down. Needless to say diaper/clothes changing has really become somewhat of a battle. I find myself dressing him while he is laying on his tummy. Whatever works, right! Brayden is a VERY determined little boy, he knows what he wants to do and if he can't make it work he gets very angry and lets us know it. He still LOVES to be standing up so he spends a lot of time in his stationary bouncy activity center.  He is sitting up on his own with very little assistance. We usually put him on the floor with the boppy around him and his basket of toys in front of him and he will stay in the upright position and content playing for a little while. It is so nice that he is able to start doing some things on his own, he really loves that independence. Mommy & Daddy enjoy it too:) Brayden also has really found a love for making his voice known in the house. He has become a lot more vocal belting out lots of new sounds and seeing just how loud he can get. We really enjoying seeing the joy and excitement in his face when something sparks his interest or makes him laugh. Brayden has also disovered his feet, he is always grabbing at them and even trying to eat them. He of course finds this particular activity the most fun when I am trying to change his diaper.

Brayden {4 Months}

13lbs 2.5oz 25inches

Well, my little man turned 4 months old on Sunday and I am just amazed at how fast time is going. I might be even more amazed at how much he changes day to day. Brayden is such an active busy little boy even though he is still so little. He does not like to stay in one place very long so we move around a lot during the day to keep him entertained. He really enjoys being outside so we go on walks or just sit in the backyard as much as the weather allows us to, his entire mood will change the moment we step outside. He has taken a real joy in trying to get his entire fist into his mouth, and actually just about anything he is playing with he attempts to get it into that mouth. We started giving him cereal and he really likes it, he is always laughing and smiling in between every bite, we of course think its absolutely adorable. Just last week Brayden and I made our first solo trip an hour away to visit my mom & sister for the day. This was a huge step for us, well probably more for me really. I was super nervous about driving that distance with him by myself. I know, it was just an hour. The trip went very well, Brayden slept the entire way there and home that evening. The new thing he has discovered is standing up, he just wants to get up and go. I have a feeling this kid will be walking early, yikes! We finally decided that it was time we try to get Brayden to sleep in his own room. Up until now he has slept in his pack-n-play in our room. He has been sleeping at least 6 to 10+ hours a night since about 10-12 weeks old but it was never consistent and I was just not comfortable with him being so far away since his room is on the other end of house. I guess I am just a nervous new mommy. Well, the transition has gone great. He has slept very well the last couple nights going to bed between 7 & 8pm and waking between 5:30 & 6am. I hope it continues. Now if we could just get a nap schedule down I would be even happier.

Brayden {3 Months}

Our little guy is 3 months old, YIKES! Where is the time going?  I just can't believe it. So much has been going on here lately. We just spent our first Easter together as a family and we LOVED it. We loved making up his very first Easter basket, eventhough he has no idea what is going on yet. Here are some things Brayden is doing...

  • We found that he loves to be outside, it really seems to calm him. So, we take him out for walks whenever the weather allows us to.
  • He has found his tounge and sticks it out all the time and LOVES it when daddy sticks his out.
  • He gave us his first really big belly laugh on Easter Sunday, it was the absolute cutest thing I have ever heard. Daddy sticking his tounge out at him was super funny.
  • He has started to reach for his toys hanging on his bouncy seat and from his floor play mat. It is starting to keep his attention longer.
  • He is pretty much sleeping through the night (since around 10 weeks). He wakes up sometimes but usually just giving him his binky settles him right down.
  • Likes to watch and talk basketball and baseball with daddy.
  • We introduced him to his stationary stand up activity set and he loves it. He really enjoys being "up".
  • I can't say that he loves the bath yet but he does not scream in terror everytime we put him in it anymore. Hope it gets better as he gets bigger.
  • I am a little obsessed with Instagram and can't stop taking and editing photos of him.
